Old Gordon Christmas

I remember some of our Christmas times when I was a child.  At our base apartment in Maryland, we had a beautiful silver tree.  I still like them.  We loved to look at all the presents under it and the tinsel or angel hair made the lights look so pretty.

Dad had a very nice cardboard fireplace that he put up each year.  It was some sort of kit and it had slots that interlinked and formed a fireplace about 5-6 foot tall.  I've never seen one like it since I've grown up and don't remember whatever happened to it.  There are some versions on sale if you search on the internet, but they don't go as high as ours did. It was special.   All 4 of us kids would get to pick where Santa would leave our gifts for us.  Some of us picked a certain corner, or near a chair, or near a window or by the fireplace.  That way when we got up we all ran to our spot and got to open our gifts.

As children, we always opened our gifts on Christmas Eve.  I love that, but my husband will not let us do that.  Nope, we have to wait till morning.  : (

  1. We're opening our gifts -or Suzy's opening hers - on CHristmas Eve morning, since we'll be going to Huntsville on Christmas day. I'm looking forward to it! We're going to have a birthday cake for Jesus for breakfast!

  2. Are you going to play that song, Happy Birthday Jesus? I hear it on the radio at this time of year. Sounds like kids are singing it it. Very nice. Or you could just sing Happy Birthday since Suzy is so young.
